HEAVY rain delayed North Leigh’s attempt to extend their winning run to six matches in Division 1 South & West.

The Millers’ match away to Shortwood United on Saturday was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

They were not alone, as only two games in the division beat the wet weather last weekend.

North Leigh, whose good run has taken them up to within four places of a play-off spot, will be hoping for better luck when they entertain local rivals Didcot Town at Eynsham Park this Friday night (7.45pm).

The game, originally scheduled to be played the following day, was brought forward in an attempt to attract a bigger crowd.

The fixture, however, does clash with England’s televised World Cup qualifying match away to San Marino.

The Millers made it five wins in a row when they defeated Devon hosts Tiverton Town 2-1 last Tuesday.

Jacob Walcott’s deflected strike put the visitors ahead after 18 minutes.

Ryan Brooks made it 2-0 four minutes later.

Tiverton striker Michael Nardiello pulled one back on 33 minutes and they hit a post near the end.

But Mark Gee’s side hung on to go ninth in the table and maintain their outside chance of a play-off place.
