North Leigh’s Evo-Stik Soutehrn League Division 1 South & West play-off hopes appear to be over following a wretched Easter.

On Bank Holiday Monday, they fell to a 4-2 defeat as they were outgunned at promotion-chasers Hungerford Town.

It followed Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat by Yate Town.

Mark Draycott did the damage in Monday’s game with a hat-trick as the home side raced into a 4-0 lead, before two Stuart Hole goals restored some pride for the Millers.

Hungerford went ahead on 14 minutes when keeper Sam Worrall spilled a long-range shot and Draycott tapped in.

Draycott headed home a Dean Stow cross for 2-0 after 25 minutes, which was the way it stayed until half-time.

Draycott completed his treble from the penalty spot five minutes after the break when Andy Caton felled Harry Goodyear, and it was Goodyear who made it 4-0 with a far-post tap-in three minutes later.

Hole’s 63rd-minute penalty after Jon Else was bundled over reduced the arrears, and he scored again four minutes from time when he headed in Brian Bowles’ super free-kick.

Saturday’s defeat by Yate ended North Leigh’s six-match winning streak thanks to an injury-time clincher from Mic-hael Page.

The Millers were looking to boost their slim play-off hopes, but Yate look to have ended that.

North Leigh opened brightly and their pressure was eventually rewarded when they went ahead. A Brian Bowles corner caused chaos in the Yate area and Zak Westlake bundled in.

However, just after the half-hour mark, Yate equalised. North Leigh failed to clear an attack and Matt Groves fired past Sam Warrell.

The Millers could have increased their lead after the break, but Ryan Brooks’s snap-shot was saved by Yate keeper Lubos Ancin.

But as they pushed for a winner, North Leigh were hit on the counter-attack.

Westlake and fellow centre back Andy Caton got into a mess as they tried to deal with a long ball and sub Page nipped in to score the winner. l Tables on page 31
