John Mills fired in his third hat-trick of the season as North Leigh outclassed the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division leaders 6-1 in the FA Cup first qualifying round tie in a one-sided contest at Alfredian Park on Saturday.

Although Mills took the plaudits for the Evo-Stik Southern League side, it was Kieran Sanders’s display that had Wantage’s defence chasing shadows.

The Millers now host Blue Square Bet South side Havant & Waterlooville in the next round on September 22.

Wantage keeper Gareth Tucker had already parried a Mills shot before the striker fired into the top corner after six minutes.

There was a long delay when North Leigh keeper Sam Warrell suffered a nasty gash to his head following an accidental collision with Tom Rowe.

Stuart Hole went in goal before Warrell returned with his head heavily bandaged.

Mills made it 2-0 when he latched onto a defence-splitting pass from Wayne Turk.

In the 42nd minute, Jacob Walcott clipped home from Sanders’s ball.

In the seven minutes of injury time added due to Warrell’s injury, Mills hooked home to complete a first-half hat-trick.

Wantage pulled a goal back in the 52nd minute, when Rowe fired home, after good build-up play from Richie Claydon and Tony Joyce. Tucker saved well from North Leigh substitute Lewis Coyle, and then brilliantly stopped a goal-bound header from Tom Franklin. There was a lull, before North Leigh added two goals late on from Jon Else and Michael Hopkins to seal a comprehensive victory.
