Battle Born added to his burgeoning reputation by making a winning reappearance over hurdles for Chipping Norton trainer Charlie Longsdon at Uttoxeter, writes Russell Smith.
Sent off the 1-2 favourite for a two-mile novices’ hurdle, the five-year-old made all the running under Noel Fehily before forging 12 lengths clear of Champagne At Tara.
Longsdon said: “We have always liked the horse and he ended up winning very nicely in the end.”
He now plans to look for a similar contest for his exciting prospect, before stepping him up in class.
On the Flat, Chastleton trainer John Gallagher sent out Port Lairge to record an amazing victory under Chris Catlin at Brighton.
The four-year-old was detached from the rest of the field in a six-furlong handicap before producing a devastating turn of foot to storm home by two and a half lengths from Fujin.
