TOWER Hill Football Club won the coveted club-of-the-year prize at the West Oxfordshire sports awards ceremony at Witney Lakes Resort.

The club took the honour in recognition of their inclusivity drive.

Last year, the club set up a disabled team and gained FA Charter Standard Community Club status, acknowledging the most advanced level of club development and football provision.

A total of 45 individuals and organisations were honoured for their achievements in fields ranging from local to international level.

Coach of the year was awarded to Jeremy Bristoe, head coach of Witney Wolves.

The rugby club caters for special needs boys and girls from the age of seven, overcoming communication barriers to improve social skills and behaviour.

Glynn Yates, founding member of Carterton Town FC, was recognised for his instrumental role in the early success of the club with the Unsung Hero Award.

As well as helping to found the club in 1984, Yates helped in the construction of Town’s clubhouse and has held numerous positions with the club.

The awards are organised annually by West Oxfordshire District Council in conjunction with the GLL Sports Foundation.

Winners receive grants ranging from £100 to £1,250 as well as free access to council-owned leisure facilities.
