Witney 2, Oxford 3rd 1

in South League Middlesex Berks, Bucks & Oxon Division 1

Despite entering the game missing a few key players, spirits were high following last weeks 12-2 victory. Witney began the game by applying sustained pressure to the Oxford defence. This led to a few chances created by the Witney players, which lacked the clinical finish. Witney's spell of bad luck continued with the loss of Ben Moss and Rory Heaslip 'through injury'! However Witney's defence held strong against a flurry of pressure from Oxford. The half time whistle blew with the scores remaining at 0-0.

Following some wise words from the coach at half time, the team began the second half full of confidence, dominating play, with chances from Thomas Dobson and Mike Godwin. Witney finally found the net, after a confident run from Richard Murphy resulting in a short corner, cleverly converted by Andy Gosnell. After some great defensive play and terrific saves from Craig Simms, Oxford managed to get an equaliser. The game continued with Witney maintaining control, eventually resulting in a short corner, from which Andy Gosnell neatly struck the ball enabling Tom Dobson to get the decisive touch. With five minutes to go, Witney saw out the game with some solid defensive play to give them a well deserved victory.
