NEW recruit Sharp Rise made an instant impact for Chipping Norton trainer Charlie Longsdon with a runaway victory at Worcester.

Formerly trained by Pauline Robson, the nine-year-old was bought by owner Robert Aplin for £32,000 at last month’s Goffs UK Sales at Doncaster.

And he quickly recouped a slice of that fee by taking the £9,384 first prize for Saturday’s extended two-mile handicap chase with a 17-lengths romp under Aidan Coleman.

The manner of his success has left Longsdon fearing how the handicapper will react.

“I would like to think the race fell apart a little up the home straight and if the handicapper does not see it that way, we could be in trouble,” he said.

“He will definitely get a sharp rise in the weights, but hopefully it will be realistic.”

It was the Chipping Norton handler’s second winner of the week after No No Mac followed up his Market Rasen triumph with a pillar-to-post success at Towcester.

Sent off the 1-7 favourite to beat three vastly inferior rivals in a novices’ chase over an extended two miles and five furlongs, the seven-year-old made no mistake by cruising home by 35 lengths with Coleman on board.

Longsdon reported the son of Oscar would now head for a break.
